{"id":21596,"date":"2024-11-27T21:23:38","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T20:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ladiesingolf.com\/?p=21596"},"modified":"2024-11-27T21:26:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T20:26:01","slug":"defending-champion-ashok-hoping-to-improve-every-day-in-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ladiesingolf.com\/en\/defending-champion-ashok-hoping-to-improve-every-day-in-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"Defending champion Ashok hoping to improve every day"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Aditi Ashok\u00a0knows she doesn\u2019t have to play perfect golf to win and is hoping for a good week at the season-ending <strong>Andaluc\u00eda Costa del Sol Open de Espa\u00f1a presented by Oysho.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Last year, the Indian star produced rounds of 69-68-68-66 at Real Club de Golf Las Brisas\u00a0to win her fifth Ladies European Tour (LET)\u00a0title by two strokes over Anne Van Dam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reflecting on her victory, the 26-year-old didn\u2019t remember a lot of the tournament but was reminded by a recent post on the LET social media channels. Having played well throughout her career at the tournament, with three top-10 finishes as well as the victory, <a href=\"https:\/\/ladiesingolf.com\/en\/andalucia-costa-del-sol-open-de-espana-by-oysho\/\">Ashok<\/a> recalled how she stayed patient on the final day in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually, I forgot quite a lot of what happened last year because when I saw the highlight reel and I saw my scorecard, I realized, I made so many birdies coming in,\u201d\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat final day was a bit of a test of patience for me because I felt like nothing was happening all day and then I finally dropped some putts and got the win. I always enjoy coming back to this tournament because even before I won, I played well here, I finished second once, I think top-five and top-ten a couple times. It was a good week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[On the 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0hole in 2023] It was an awkward bunker shot for me, it was a bit too long for my 60-degree wedge, so I had to hit it with a 54 and I knew it wouldn\u2019t stop quick enough. It was a crazy idea to use the backstop, but then me and my dad thought it would work and if you hit it a little long, it will roll back, so that worked out perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill, I felt like until the last minute, I never felt like the job was done because Anne [Van Dam] obviously had the birdie butt and if she made it and I missed, it was still going to be a playoff. Until she missed and I had a three-footer to win, it didn\u2019t actually feel like I had a chance to actually win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s tournament is being played at a different venue with<strong> Real Club Guadalhorce Golf<\/strong> in Malaga hosting the event for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking about how she played in 2023, Ashok is aware she doesn\u2019t have to play perfectly but knows that she can improve round on round.<\/p>\n<p>She explained:\u00a0\u201cI think the golf courses are different from each other, and different places too, so I don\u2019t know how much the weather will be similar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust seeing the way I played that week, I know that I\u2019d have to play four good rounds and if I stay patient and I feel like last when I won, I\u2019ve played a lot of good golf, but I even made a couple of mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI dropped some shots and I made a double bogey in there last time, so I know that it doesn\u2019t have to be perfect to win. I just need to play a lot more good golf than the mistakes, so that\u2019s what I\u2019ll focus on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ashok splits her time throughout the year playing on the LET and the LPGA Tour, however in the latter part of the year she has taken time out and spent a longer period at home.<\/p>\n<p>Having competed in a big summer which included the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the five-time LET winner felt she needed to spend time practicing at home.<\/p>\n<p>However, having not played as much tournament golf, Ashok also knows it might take a little bit of time to get back into tournament mode this week.<\/p>\n<p>She continued:\u00a0\u201cI think I was a little golfed out. I played a lot of weeks in a row this year and just felt like I needed a bit of a break, so, I just went home for five, six weeks and got enough practice in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was excited for this week, but I just needed a few weeks off to just go to the gym and practice because I felt like I was playing and trying to do stuff on the golf course, but it wasn\u2019t happening because I hadn\u2019t practiced enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat part is going to be a bit of a challenge. I haven\u2019t played on the golf course as much back home, so just yesterday playing in the Pro-Am, I got a little bit of a feeler as to where my game is at.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes I\u2019m thinking of hitting certain shots, but because I haven\u2019t hit them on the golf course, I\u2019m not really I guess zoned into like alignment or those little things that get better as you play week after week. That adjustment will be a little bit tricky, but I still think if I play well, I\u2019ll only get better as the days go by.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ashok will get her title defence underway on Thursday at 12.01 pm (local time) alongside Belgium\u2019s Manon De Roey and England\u2019s Bronte Law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ENJOYMENT IS THE KEY FOR PEL\u00c1EZ TRIVINO AT SEASON FINALE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ana Pel\u00e1ez Trivino\u00a0heads into the Ladies European Tour (LET) season finale having secured a trophy on home soil last week.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old secured a six-stroke victory at last week\u2019s Santander Spanish Women\u2019s Professional Championship which was played at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.<\/p>\n<p>Despite coming away with a trophy, Pel\u00e1ez Trivino was happiest to have her brother on her bag and loved being able to enjoy every minute of playing golf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than the trophy, I think it was just a magical week,\u201d\u00a0she said.\u00a0\u201cI think playing at home is always a great feeling but having my brother in the bag it\u2019s even better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoyed every minute. it\u2019s hard to believe because usually when we play golf we take it to heart, but I know I enjoyed every single shot, so I\u2019m really happy and I think that\u2019s why the outcome was getting the trophy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The LET winner is excited heading into this week\u2019s Andaluc\u00eda Costa del Sol Open de Espa\u00f1a presented by Oysho.<\/p>\n<p>Real Club Guadalhorce Golf in Malaga is hosting the tournament for the first time and Pel\u00e1ez Trivino is pleased to have the event in her hometown.<\/p>\n<p>However, she doesn\u2019t know how much support she will have on the sidelines as she\u2019s left that to her family members and is just hoping to enjoy the week again.<\/p>\n<p>She explained:\u00a0\u201cI think it\u2019s great it is the first time that, we have hosted the season finale here in Malaga downtown, which is great because I think more people will have the chance to come and visit, not only people who live in Marbella.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/openfemenino.com\/entradas\/andalucia-costa-del-sol-open-de-espana-2024-presented-by-oysho-english\/\">Get your tickets here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aditi Ashok\u00a0knows she doesn\u2019t have to play perfect golf to win and is hoping for a good week at the season-ending Andaluc\u00eda Costa del Sol Open de Espa\u00f1a presented by Oysho.
