It is enough to know Teresa to realise that she has something special. The way she is constantly smiling, the way she looks and listens to you makes you feel comfortable with her from the first moment of the conversation. Teresa Toscano is small but tough. She stands for her hometown, Huelva, and she enjoys talking about the great courses that there are in the province. La Monacilla y Bellavista are her home, but she is usually seen practising in others like El Rompido<\/a> and Islantilla. After finishing university in the EEUU last year, she became a professional. This season she combines the EPSON and LET tournaments. We meet her at the Aramco Team Series London<\/a> and we make the best of this opportunity to speak with her and get to know her a bit more.<\/b><\/p>\n

Teresa Toscano entered the professional world through the front door. In her first season she went to nothing less than the USA Open, that was held at the legendary Pebble Beach.\u00a0 <\/span>What\u2019s more, the young woman from Huelva was part of the Spanish trio with two great referents: Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Mu\u00f1oz. Unfortunately, the results weren\u2019t as good as they hoped but, no doubt, this is one of her great experiences: \u201cFirst year was full of learning, everything I did was to learn more. When you become a pro, you think that you can play golf, but there is a lot of things in the life of a professional. It really is to professionalize yourself, that\u2019s the proper word. Your routine must be perfect and for the mental part you have to be sure what is working and what is not\u201d, Teresa explains.<\/p>\n

She started to be interested in golf and she intended to improve when she was fourteen years old. Afterwards, when she was studying at the South Dakota University, she decided to become a professional: \u201cMy team at the University has always been helping me and, right now I’m working a lot with a boy from Tennessee via video-calls. Victor Fern\u00e1ndez, in Huelva, is also helping me a great deal with the short game. He\u00b4s known me since I was a kid\u201d, Teresa says.<\/p>\n

And, since she crossed the ocean, she hasn\u2019t felt that her place is more there than in Europe. \u201cThe EPSON has a higher level; it is a birdies race. There is more competition there, but the LET is better organized, those are the biggest differences. The LET has improved a lot during the last two years, but I had a full status at EPSON and I have been playing it there. Last year I played the LET school and I classified, so I have been playing between both this year\u201d, she comments.<\/p>\n

She knows that combining both circuits is a bit difficult, but that\u2019s part of her great objective: \u201cThis year has been a bit crazy. I am playing in both and in the end, you play very well or you don\u2019t rise in any of them, so that now I\u2019m back to the EPSON for a few weeks and afterwards I\u2019ll come back to the LET in November. Now the LPGA is the objective, I have it in my sight\u201d.\"\"<\/p>\n

Teresa’s life is not easy, like the life of many other players who are following their dreams: \u201cI don\u2019t have a house\u201d she laughs, \u201cI\u2019m from place to place every week, going around. I am very lucky; I have families that I have met during all these years and when I call them, they welcome me. The week that I don\u2019t have a tournament, I stay with some of my families, depending where the next tournament is. I have three that are my \u201cgo to families\u201d, one in Ohio, one in Florida and another one in Las Vegas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Teresa’s day takes place among the gym, the golf courses and the trips. She compensates her short height with effort, even though she recognises that it is not what she finds most difficult in golf: \u201cBeing so little, I strike the ball with strength, I think that helps me a lot. And I improved my putting at the university. Travelling so much is mentally tiring. The mental part is giving me a bit of anxiety. I am working on it, and step by step I’ll go through it.\u201d she expresses hopefully.<\/p>\n

A lover of the competition and of personal relationships, Teresa dreams on being part of the Solheim Cup or of the Olympic Games team someday.
