The international popularity of The Dunas Course<\/a> at\u00a0Terras da Comporta<\/a> has been further underlined after the venue was named as the number one golf course in Portugal by users of a respected industry website for the second year running. The acclaimed par-71 layout near Lisbon \u2013 architect David McLay-Kidd\u2019s first golf design project in mainland Europe which opened in October 2023 \u2013 was the overwhelming first choice in Leading Courses\u2019<\/i><\/a> updated \u2018Golfers\u2019 Choice Awards 2025\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Decided by reviews given by the Leading Courses community, each course was assessed across a range of categories including design, surroundings, maintenance, hospitality and value for money, with The Dunas Course scoring highly in each.<\/p>\n

As well as being named as the best course in Portugal, The Dunas Course also came out top in the sections of most improved course, best club, best maintenance, value for money, best hospitality and best surroundings.<\/p>\n

The accolade is the latest global accolade to be bestowed on The Dunas Course since it was officially opened 18 months ago \u2013 including being named as the \u2018World\u2019s Best Golf Course\u2019, \u2018Europe\u2019s Best Golf Course\u2019 and\u00a0\u2018Europe\u2019s Best Eco-Friendly Golf Facility\u2019 at last year\u2019s World Golf Awards.<\/p>\n

Situated one hour south of Lisbon in a secluded setting on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, The Dunas Course \u2013 which measures 6,646 metres off the back tees \u2013 has been created over 84 hectares of natural, sandy terrain and\u00a0has been built using the highest sustainable practices.<\/p>\n

Owned by Vanguard Properties, Portugal\u2019s largest real estate developer who took ownership of the development in 2019, The Dunas Course is the first of two 18-hole championship courses that will open at Terras da Comporta with the second, The Torre Course, set to be unveiled this summer.<\/p>\n

Designed by Sergio Garcia, the Torre Course is the\u00a0first major layout that the European Ryder Cup legend has held overall design responsibility for. Inspired by Real Club Valderrama \u2013 which the 2017 US Masters champion cites as his favourite course in the world \u2013 the par-72 course will feature generous fairways, small greens and measure 6,575 metres from the back tees when it opens.<\/p>\n

As well as two 18-hole golf courses, Terras da Comporta will boast a wide range of lifestyle and sporting facilities including tennis, padel, pickleball and horse riding. The development, which sits just one hour south of Lisbon, also includes an array of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums.<\/p>\n
