The historic tournament reaches its 27th edition firmly established as one of the most prestigious events on the HotelPlanner Tour and one of Europe’s leading showcases for emerging golf talent and future world stars.

Next week, Isla Canela Golf Links will once again become the centre of European golf as it hosts the Challenge de España 2026, a strategic tournament on the Road to Mallorca taking place at one of the most decisive and competitive moments of the season.

With the race for DP World Tour cards tighter than ever, the Andalusian event arrives with minimal margins in the rankings and dozens of players separated by only a few shots in a season defined by competitiveness, pressure and the rise of a new generation of talent.

Located between natural marshlands and the Atlantic Ocean, Isla Canela Golf Links remains one of the most unique layouts on the HotelPlanner Tour schedule. Wind, strategy and adaptability will once again play a decisive role on a course that rewards creativity, patience and precision in true links-style fashion.

Over nearly three decades, the Challenge de España has established itself as one of the most important stepping stones towards the DP World Tour and a proven platform for future champions.

Jaime Salaverri, Vice President of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, described the Challenge de España as one of the key tournaments for the development of professional golf in Spain and Europe.

“The level on the HotelPlanner Tour continues to rise and the Challenge de España has become a tournament that prepares players for the leap to the DP World Tour,” said Salaverri. “Many former champions here have gone on to succeed at the highest level of world golf.”

Salaverri also praised the strength of Spain’s new golfing generation following Pablo Ereño’s recent victory at the Challenge de Catalunya.

“Pablo Ereño’s win in Fontanals shows the incredible talent emerging in Spanish golf. We are seeing a generation of players who are ambitious, highly prepared and ready to compete at the highest level,” he added.

Few events on the HotelPlanner Tour can match the history and prestige of the Challenge de España. Over the years, the tournament has crowned players who later became stars on the global stage.

One of the most notable examples is Brooks Koepka, who won the event in 2013 before becoming a five-time Major champion and one of the biggest names in world golf.

The tournament’s list of champions also includes Victor Perez, Antoine Rozner and Santiago Tarrío, reinforcing the Challenge de España’s reputation as one of Europe’s premier launchpads for emerging talent.

For many of the players competing this week at Isla Canela Golf Links, the goal is clear: follow in the footsteps of past champions and take the next step towards the elite level of professional golf.

The Challenge de España is promoted by the HotelPlanner Tour, with the support of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, the Government of Andalusia, the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation and the Spanish Sports Council, as well as Allianz, AON, BCD Sports, Kyocera, Volvo, Scalpers, Pesasur, Nevadabobs, Bodegas Juan Gil, Mahou, Solán de Cabras, Revel, Asociación Armadores de Punta del Moral, Licor Mediterráneo and Titleist, under the organisation of JGolf.

The historic tournament reaches its 27th edition firmly established as one of the most prestigious events on the HotelPlanner Tour and one of Europe’s leading showcases for emerging golf talent and future world stars.
