Tenerife is the largest of the eight islands which make up the Canary Islands. Its most famous attractions are the Teide National Park (the highest point on Spanish land), its volcanic landscape, magnificent beaches and its tropical climate. Another alluring feature is its famous original cuisine, incorporating African and tropical influences. The island o\ufb00ers nine golf courses, and thanks to the beautiful climate, golfers can play at any time of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teide<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most emblematic place in Tenerife, the Teide National Park was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, in the Natural Sites category.
\nIt is in the centre of the island, at an average height of 2000 m, and its peak is the highest point in Spanish territory, at 3780 m. More record numbers also make it the most visited natural park in Spain and all of Europe, with 3 million tourists visiting a year. From a geomorphological point of view, it is unique as the caldera structure and the stratovolcanic Teide-Pico-Viejo are unlike anything else on the planet. The hundreds of volcanic cones, lava flows and caves are of rich scientific and landscape value. Complementing this are the amazing fauna and flora, with a vast range of species which are exclusive to this area.
\nThe park was created in 1954 as a tribute to the island\u2019s volcanic and biological singularity. It spreads over almost 19,000 hectares, making it the biggest and oldest of all national parks on the Canary Islands.<\/p>\n

Santa Cruz de Tenerife<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cruz de Tenerife is, since 1833, the capital of the island and is joint capital of the Autonomous Community of the Canaries alongside Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. A pleasant average yearly temperature of 21.2\u00b0 C encourages you out into the streets and parks to enjoy a leisurely stroll in the fresh air. There are numerous pedestrian streets in the city centre, full of atmosphere and packed with shops and marvellous restaurants. The historic buildings of great importance stand side-by-side with wonderful contemporary architectural works of art. It is a cheerful and bright city, world-renowned for its most famous festival – the Carnival, which has been declared a festival of international tourist interest.<\/p>\n

North<\/strong><\/p>\n

The northern part of Tenerife, from the Valle de la Orotava up to the Isla Baja is a perfect blend of natural paradise, tranquillity, culture and leisure. With the Teide to one side and the Atlantic ocean to the other, it is the perfect place to learn about the traditions of the island, its cuisine and crafts, not to mention visiting the magnificent beaches to make the most of the pleasant temperatures all year round. The beautiful landscape of the Valle de La Orotava is dominated by the Teide and is brought to life by the sun and the stunning green of its gardens and allotments. The old part of La Orotava is not to be missed with its artistic and architectural heritage. Visitors can also observe the work of local craftspeople who remain true to the techniques passed down from their grandparents.<\/p>\n

San\u00a0Cristobal\u00a0de la Laguna<\/strong><\/p>\n

The city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 providing a\u201cunique example of an unwalled colonial city\u201d. It maintains the original design from the 15th Century almost intact. It was also used as a reference for American colonial cities, such as Old Havana, Lima or Cartagena, and its similarity with these cities can be seen in its houses and streets.<\/p>\n

South<\/strong><\/p>\n

The south is well-known for its incredible sandy beaches which run along the entire coast. Its unbeatable climate and constant sunshine all year round keep its waters warm and encourage a wide range of water sports and other leisure activities in the area.
\nAt Playa de las Americas, located between Arona and Adeje, you can enjoy a wide range of restaurants and cafeterias positioned right next to the beach.
\nYou can enjoy a swim in the clear and warm waters of the Costa del Silencio, with alcoves hidden between stunning cliffs.
\nThe beach at Las Vistas in Los Cristianos is the perfect place for sunbathing and swimming in the sea, no matter what the season. The peace and tranquillity are the main attractions of Los Cristianos, located between the protected areas of the Chayofita and the Guaza mountains in the Arona region. Los Tarajales is another very popular beach in the area. The port at Los Cristianos is also worth a visit, located next to the beach, it provides a place from which you can sail off and visit the other islands during your stay in Tenerife.<\/p>\n

Cuisine<\/strong><\/p>\n

The African and tropical influences help make Canarian cuisine one of the most exciting. Among the typical dishes it offers, there are the famous wrinkled potatoes in a spicy mojo sauce, Canarian ropa vieja (a potato, beef and vegetable dish), rabbit in salmorejo (a cold tomato sauce), escaldon de gofio
\n(stew of toasted and ground cereal) and carne fiesta (dish with meat and chips).<\/p>\n

Golf<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are nine courses in total on the island, most of which are located in the south. They are Abama, Amarilla, Buenavista, Los Palos, Costa de Adeje, Golf del Sur, Las Am\u00e9rica, Tecina and Real Club de Golf Tenerife. We have chosen three of them as the ones we most recommend due to their special characteristics.<\/p>\n

Buenavista Golf<\/strong><\/p>\n

Buenavista golf, designed by Severiano Ballesteros, is a challenging course located around beautiful areas which make it the ideal place for golfers who are searching for a true golfing experience surrounded by nature and the sea. It has 18 holes, is par 72 and has a total length of 6,150 metres. It is unique as it has six par 3 holes, another six par 4s, and the remaining holes par 5s. The most exciting are the holes which are closest to the sea, with players feeling as if they are hitting the ball into the ocean, leading to it being nicknamed the \u201cPebble Beach Canario\u201d. The course belongs to the hotel Meli\u00e1 Hacienda del Conde. This exclusive resort is for adults only and has a colonial style inspired by the architectural and cultural richness of the Canaries. It enjoys a magnificent location facing the sea, where guests can appreciate a peaceful spot and be at one with nature.<\/p>\n

The Real Club de Golf de Tenerife <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Real Club de Golf de Tenerife was founded on 18 December 1932, making it one of the oldest in Spain. However, its origins go back even further in time, with its members being able to boast being part of the first Golf Club created in the country. The current course has been designed by several prestigious players who belong to the club.
\nThe course is in the greenest and freshest part of Tenerife, at 600 metres above sea level and within the Tacoronte region. It has a total of 18 holes, with a total length of 5,740 metres and a par 71. Its beauty comes to the fore thanks to the many local trees which are perfectly integrated with the rest of the course features.<\/p>\n

Amarilla Golf<\/strong><\/p>\n

Right on the edge of the coast, at Amarilla Golf, the landscaper Donald Steel created an 18-hole course which looks out onto the ocean and at times forces you to air the ball over the waves in order to reach the green. The perfect example of this is hole 5 – without doubt, one of the most spectacular on the course. Palm trees, Indian shot, Canarian pine trees and water hazards provide the challenge on the round which also offers fantastic views of the Teide.
