Johan Edfors has won the European Legends Cup by SR Nexus after producing a spectacular final round at Fontanals Golf.

The Swede carded an impressive 64, eight under par, to finish on 15 under par and claim the title by three shots. The victory is Edfors’ second of the season on the Staysure Legends Tour.The result also brings a change at the top of the rankings. Stephen Gallacher becomes the new No. 1, while Edfors moves into second place

Edfors completes remarkable comeback

Johan Edfors’ victory is even more impressive considering how the tournament began.

The Swede opened the European Legends Cup with a 72. He then responded with an outstanding 65 on Saturday to move firmly into contention.

But he saved his best for the final day.

Edfors fired a brilliant 64 to complete an extraordinary turnaround. In just 48 hours, he went from level par to 15 under par.

The comeback reflects Edfors’ excellent form. At 50, the Swede is enjoying another successful chapter in his professional career.

A second chance for Johan Edfors

Edfors’ career has also been defined by comebacks.

The Swede began his professional career on the Challenge Tour, where he claimed his first victories before earning his place on what was then the European Tour.

His arrival at the highest level of European golf was spectacular.

In 2006, he won three tournaments, a season that transformed his career.

Over the years, however, he also experienced the challenges of professional golf. He lost his Tour card and returned to the Challenge Tour, where he once again managed to win.

Now, at the age of 50, Edfors has found a new stage on the Staysure Legends Tour.

His first season on the circuit has been impressive. After winning in Ireland earlier this season, he has now added another title at Fontanals Golf.

He also has five top-10 finishes in his debut season on the circuit.

Rather than simply a second youth, it feels like a second chance for a player who has never lost his winning instinct.

Six birdies in seven holes

Edfors approached the final round with patience. He opened with three consecutive pars before making three birdies on the front nine.

The decisive moment came from the ninth hole onwards.

The Swede produced six birdies in seven holes, a spectacular run that opened up the leaderboard.

Edfors reached the closing holes with a sizeable advantage. It was only on the 16th that he fully realised he was in position to win.

“Really, the difference between the first round of the tournament and these last two has been putting and patience. I managed both quite well and it worked. I’m delighted; I putted amazingly.”

The Swede did not need to take unnecessary risks down the stretch. He managed his lead to complete a 64 and finish on 15 under par.

The result was his second Staysure Legends Tour victory of the season and the European Legends Cup by SR Nexus title.

Fontanals Golf impresses Edfors

The champion also highlighted his experience at Fontanals Golf throughout the week.

“The week has been incredible. The weather we’ve had, the spectacular views and the amazing golf course. It’s been a fantastic week.”

The tournament provided another opportunity for the Staysure Legends Tour to showcase its golf at a leading venue in Catalonia.

Anna, Edfors’ lucky charm

The victory also had a special protagonist.

Anna, Johan Edfors’ partner, carried his bag as his caddie during the week. Once again, the partnership delivered success.

Anna had already caddied for the Swede during his victory in Ireland. Now they have repeated the achievement at Fontanals Golf.

Two tournaments together. Two victories.

A difficult statistic to improve.

Robert Coles and Steve Webster finish second

The leaderboard remained tightly packed for much of the final round.

However, Edfors’ late charge proved impossible to match.

Robert Coles and Steve Webster shared second place on 12 under par, three shots behind the champion.

Bradley Dredge started Sunday as the leader on 11 under par. The Englishman had completed the first two rounds without dropping a shot.

He eventually finished on 11 under par, behind Coles and Webster.

Fontanals reshapes the Staysure Legends Tour rankings

The European Legends Cup by SR Nexus has also produced significant changes in the Staysure Legends Tour rankings.

Stephen Gallacher, who finished tied fifth at Fontanals, leaves the tournament as the new No. 1 in the rankings.

Edfors’ victory moves him into second place.

Gallacher and Edfors therefore occupy the top two positions as the season enters its final stages.

Fontanals Golf has crowned Edfors champion while also adding a new twist to the battle for the Staysure Legends Tour ranking.
