Almeria is characterised by its many contrasts. Against its famous desert we find a 200km of coast line, and in opposition to its flat landscape we also find the mountain landscapes of La Alpujarra. The Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, with long beaches and small hidden bays, is its biggest treasure. Tabernas has been for many years the setting of some of the most famous spaghetti westerns. And there is no doubt that its 8 golf clubs are another of its biggest attraction.

The Alcazaba is one of the capital’s monuments most important and most frequently visited. From the San Cristobal hill, its impressive structure dominates the bay and all the city. This defensive construction was built during the 10^th century and it is known as one of the Al-Andalus most powerful strongholds, being the biggest. 

The Cathedral of the Encarnacion stands out because it combines late Gothic, Baroque, Neoclassic and Renaissance elements in its fortress structure. Thanks to this unique combination, this cathedral is considered artistically and architecturally one of the most important elements in Andalucia. In fact, it is listed as a Building of Cultural Interest and it was declared a Historical-Artistical Monument from the Spanish Artistic National Treasure.

Cabo de Gata-Níjar

The Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park was declared as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and it was the first maritime and land space protected in Andalucia. Thanks to it the Cabo de Gata has avoided all the urbanistic development produced along other areas of the Spanish coast and it has become the best conserved area of all the Mediterranean European coast. Nowadays, the Cabo de Gata is one of the most authentic and beautiful places in Spain.

Mojácar

In 2003, Mojácar was proclaimed to be one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. Placed at the end of Sierra Cabrera it offers amazing views over the coast. A typical Spanish white town, with steep streets and geraniums, it has within it all the beautiful essence of Andalucia.

Parador de Mojácar

Next to the local beaches and having one of the best microclimates of Spain we find the Parador of Mojacar. This is the ideal spot for all those looking for a place to enjoy quiet beaches or who want to play golf. It offers a swimming pool, gym with sauna and massage rooms in its facilities. The rooms with terrace invite you to enjoy the sun sets and sun rise over the Mediterranean Sea.

Tabernas

On the Tabernas desert, the movie producers found a setting of singular natural beauty that reproduced exactly the landscape of the American wild west, and they built scenery and small cities for the western movies there. The film shoots started at the end of the 50’s, being the 60’s and 70´s the decades of higher splendor. Nowadays, music videos, adverts and some movies are being filmed making the best of the scenery. Movies such as Laurence of Arabia, Cleopatra, Patton, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Conan the Barbarian have been filmed there also.

VALLE DEL ESTE

The Valle del Este Golf Club is part of a resort that consists of a golf course, a hotel and a Wellness center. In its spacious facilities there is also a small shopping mall with three restaurants, that avoid the need to leave the complex, so that you can enjoy the relaxing days to the most. Designed by José Canales, this course is characterized by spacious fairways, elevated tees and large greens with different flag positions and protected by bunkers. The lakes are another of the challenges of the course.

ALMERIMAR GOLF

Designed by Gary Player, this golf course has 27 holes placed among lakes and palm trees giving it a singular beauty. It has spacious fairways and fast greens protected by large bunkers, but its distinguishing mark are the water obstacles found around many of its holes. One of the most characteristic is the 12^th hole, a 3-Par whose green is placed on a small island in the middle of a lake. The Almerimar Golf Club is set in a complex with a sporting port, beach, hotel and apartments, apart from many other sporting facilities.

DESERT SPRING

Desert Spring is the only course in Europe designed with the Arizona Dessert style and built following the USGA specifications. Playing there is a whole new experience. Its landscape, with 600.000 cacti and many other desert plants, rocks and dry rivers transports the players to a different continent. The course, designed by Peter McEvoy, is technical and demands precision. Getting out of the fairway, that seems to be quite narrow in the distance, means that you’ll have to play from a desert-like area, that’s why in many holes it is better to leave the driver in the bag. The club house, assimilated with the architecture of the course and the urbanization, welcomes the players with an excellent gastronomy after the golf round. They have a specific program for ladies, the Golf4Women, with multiple activities over the year and a festival in November.

MARINA MOJÁCAR BY UGOLF

This recently opened course has been designed by Ramón Espinosa and it counts with two different areas: 9 holes in front of the sea and another 9 behind a small hill protected from the maritime breeze. There are spectacular tees from some of the holes, with excellent fairways and three lakes that make the game more entertaining. Some of the holes offer amazing views of the area and the Mediterranean Sea. If there is anything to highlight it is the Drive off the 4^th hole, a complete adrenaline rush.

LA ENVÍA GOLF

The Envía Golf Club is placed right at the Sierra de Vícar, and it was designed by Francisco Mendoza Montero. Its 18 holes are set along a valley, among mountains on the East and West. Each of its 18 holes presents a different challenge to the player due to its native vegetation that border the fairways and its bunkers and water obstacles strategically placed. It has the image of an oasis in the middle of a spectacular desert. The golf club belongs to the Envía Almeria Wellness & Golf Hotel complex, where you can enjoy comfortable rooms and apartments and a spectacular 5000 square meters spa orientated to your well-being. Its large halls and gardens are the ideal place for great events.

ALBORAN GOLF

Alboran Golf was designed by the prestigious architect Ramon Espinosa to host the Mediterranean Games of Almeria in the 2005. The course, an 18-Par championship, meets the requirements to hold the highest level competitions. Respect for the natural environment is one of the premises of the course. It has a low consumption innovative watering system, which makes the most of the waste waters of the closest town. The environment has been respected also with the design and the election of the vegetation, choosing palms trees, olive trees, pines, prickly pears and pitas. The bunkers have been strategically placed to give an incentive to the game, that gets more difficult also at the greens due to gentle slopes. It is worth stressing that the course has several training areas and its own school.

PUBLIC SCHOOL EL TOYO

Promoted by the Public Company for Management and Sports of Andalusia. It has 60 positions, a putting green, a chipping green, a clubhouse, and 4 paddle court. The Toyo Public Golf Schools mission is to bring the teaching of quality golf and paddle tennis at popular prices to all citizens.

AGUILON GOLF

The Aguilon Golf Club is placed at the North-East of Almeria. It is an impressive golf course consisting of 18 holes, 70-Par, with an extraordinary quality. It has a large amount of lakes, more than 100 bunkers and fast greens.

The course, that offers holes of different grades of difficulty, is situated at the foot of the beautiful mountains of El Aguilon, and it has a challenging and spectacular design created by making the best of the natural cliff of the area from where you can enjoy the amazing views of the Pulpí  and Aguilas bays.

PLAYA SERENA GOLF CLUB

Considered as the flattest course in Spain it has a very comfortable round and its main difficulty consists of  long holes and the design of the greens well defended by bunkers. The course, perfectly maintained during the whole year, is characterized for offering large fairways and 9 splendid lakes hard to pass over sometimes. A great amount of genuine Mediterranean vegetation dominates the whole round. It is, no doubt, a course to enjoy the golf and due to its high level, it holds competitions of national and European circuits.
