Aloha Golf Club is the only club which boasts its own charity association. Aloha Cares is made up of just four members and the club president. This small group of people dedicate a great deal of effort and enthusiasm into raising money every month in order to help those in need. They have been working hard for seven years to improve the quality of life of many local families and have managed to raise more than €95,000, which has been used to buy food, medication, school material and also, to fund special projects such as that of Jessica, the gymnast, or young Sarah Almagro. In fact, this very tournament has been organised to raise funds for Sarah’s prosthesis, and has managed to reach the target amount of €11,000. Their effort has been matched by the support of all members, once again showing how strong we can be when we work together, and that Aloha is more than just a golf club.

ALOHA CARES Tournament
200 members, together with their guests, took part in this Aloha Cares mixed tournament, held on Saturday 13 April, to help Sarah Almagro and the Somos tu Ola (we are your wave) initiative. The good weather lasted throughout the day, allowing the award ceremony to take place on the terrace, with a variety of cocktails offered by La Sala. The tireless work of the association meant that the event also benefited from the donation of green fees from Valderrama, La Reserva, Finca Cortesin and Sotogrande, with prizes for the best players. In addition, Walter Fischer offered a spectacular distinctive prize: Three days’ use of a Mercedes Cabriolet. Many individuals and companies were eager to take part by donating prizes, such as the Aloha Golf Club itself, the Restaurant, the Pro Shop, the Golf Pros, the Health Club and Physio. Vinópolis supplied the wine for the gala dinner. The fun continued with a disco, which provided the perfect finish to a charity day in which the members showed that their swing has the ability to reach beyond the fairways. Their huge generosity led to a total amount of €14,000 raised on the day. The event was so successful that there are already plans to repeat it next year.

The History of the Association
This association was born in 2012 under the slogan “nobody goes hungry”. It started when a group of members collected money to buy food to help 60 to 70 families with children in need. With the help of Leo, the director of the Caritas charity organisation at the Virgen Madre en La Campana Church, they were able to supply food and other aid, such as support in finding employment. The resulting decrease in dependent families has been a result of this initiative.
In addition to food, medication was also provided when aid was cut by the Local Council, as well as books and school material.
Due to their keen desire to help, a few years ago, the women’s group at Aloha established the Day of the Angel at Aloha. On this day, money is raised for elderly people in need. Every Christmas, the same group people contributes around 100 presents and toys for the children of La Campana. They also collect utensils, clothes and furniture throughout the year and donate them to Caritas and Cudeca (a cancer care foundation).
As a result, since 2012, they have raised more than €95,000 for different causes. Cristina and Joachim von Kyaw, and Heinz and Lilo Goesswein, together with the Club President, Rafael Fontán, are the driving force behind Aloha Cares. On behalf of the members of Aloha, these are the people who, thanks to their effort, dedication and solidarity, have improved the lives of many families.

Aloha Cares Initiatives
Food: every month, families with children at La Campana receive food and basic necessities through the parish, worth a total value of between €800 and €1,000.
Medication: a monthly amount of €400 is assigned to pharmaceutical supplies.
School material: every September, books, notebooks and backpacks are provided to children whose parents otherwise would not be able to afford them.
Toys and presents at Christmas: the women’s group at Aloha offers toys and other presents to children in need at La Campana.
Non-monetary donations: children’s clothes, items and furniture.
Las Hermanitas de los Pobres in Malaga and the Residencia Virgen del Carmen in Estepona have received furniture donated by the Club House as well as money raised by the women’s group every year on the Day of the Angel.

Special projects:
Jessica, a talented rhythmic gymnast, did not have enough money to train and buy equipment. Thanks to the help of one member, she was able to become champion of Spain. As a result, she received a grant from the Banus Foundation, which has allowed her to continue her career.

Sarah Almagro is a young girl from Marbella who, affected by a meningococcal disease, lost her hands and feet. Aloha Cares has joined the Somos tu ola initiative by hosting a tournament, donating more than €11,000 to help pay for the prosthesis she needs.

There are many ways in which money is raised, ranging from private donations to company donations with tax benefits. The Aloha Golf Club organises this ALOHA CARES tournament specifically for these causes.
