The Spanish rising star will make his Open debut wearing a series of looks inspired by some of the most iconic moments of Seve Ballesteros’ career.

Fifty years after Seve Ballesteros announced himself to the world at Royal Birkdale, Spanish rising star Ángel Ayora will mark the anniversary during his Open Championship debut with a series of looks inspired by defining moments from the legendary Spaniard’s career.

The 21-year-old will wear SEVE Collection throughout The 154th Open, including tributes to the yellow-and-brown outfit Ballesteros wore in 1976 and the iconic white-and-navy “Seve Sunday” look he made famous at St Andrews in 1984.

In 1976, a largely unknown 19-year-old Seve Ballesteros captivated the crowds at Royal Birkdale with the fearless, imaginative and creative golf that would come to define his career.

After leading by two shots through 54 holes, he finished joint runner-up behind Johnny Miller. On the 18th hole, Seve produced one of the most memorable shots in the history of the Championship: an audacious chip-and-run between the bunkers guarding the green, followed by a birdie putt that secured a share of second place with Jack Nicklaus.

Seve had arrived.

He would go on to win The Open three times — in 1979, 1984 and 1988 — but Royal Birkdale was where an international audience first discovered one of the most charismatic and influential figures in golf history.

Half a century later, Ángel Ayora will begin his own Open journey at the same venue.

The Spanish golfer recorded ten top-ten finishes during his rookie season on the DP World Tour, more than any other player, and finished 20th in the Race to Dubai rankings. Since turning professional in 2023, he has been managed by Javier Ballesteros, Seve’s eldest son, and became the first golfer to wear SEVE Collection.

“Playing in my first Open Championship is something I have worked towards and dreamed about for a long time,” said Ayora. “To make my debut at Royal Birkdale, where Seve first showed the world what made him so special, makes the moment even more meaningful.

SEVE Collection connects modern golf performance apparel with the moments that shaped the career of one of the game’s greatest legends.

Two of the looks Ángel Ayora will wear during the week will carry particular significance. On Friday, he will wear a Lemon Drop polo with Chestnut Brown trousers, reimagining the yellow-and-brown outfit Ballesteros wore at Royal Birkdale in 1976.

For Sunday’s final round, Ayora will switch to Emerson White, paired with navy trousers and a sweater. The outfit is a modern interpretation of the celebrated “Seve Sunday” look Ballesteros wore when he lifted the Claret Jug at St Andrews in 1984.
