Anna is a beautiful Swedish woman that lives in Spain six months of the year. This is her third year as captain of the Los Naranjos Club in Marbella.

Her legacy from this position is the Summer League and her best argument, a smile that makes any new member of the club feel at home.
The strength of her character and her drive are made obvious when in barely seven years not only has she learned to play golf and have a low handicap but she has also successfully impelled the female part of a club that gains new members every year.

Anna started to play golf in 2011, at the behest of her husband. He was sure she would like it given her love of nature and her sporting and competitive character.
So it was and although in the beginning it was tough, now Anna adores golf: “I have no talent for golf; it has been pure practice and wanting to do it. You have to work with your head. Golf brings out the best in you but it also brings out the worst because it is very emotional. During the first two years I only played with my husband because I’d get angry, cry and throw the clubs down. Later it was he himself who pushed me to play other women. The fact is, in my first round of golf I got only one point in the first nine holes”, she says between laughs and continues, “it wasn’t till the third year when I discovered that I was beginning to understand what golf was and improving and improving.
Now I’m handicap 14,2 and lowering.”

In April the vote will be held to revalidate her position as Captain: “If they keep wanting me, here I’ll remain”.
Anna assures that she considers her position as Captain to be a great opportunity as, “you know from the inside how everything works, you know what is going on around you and you have a real vision of the golf course, you have information you would not have otherwise”.

For her, the best thing about being the captain is “the contact with the people, I love meeting new people. During my entire working life I have worked as a marketing manager and human resource director, and thus I am used to dealing with people. This is a super opportunity for me”.

Her duties as Ladies Captain include welcoming new female members to the club, informing them about the championships and leagues: “I try to have them playing with me the first tournaments, present them to everybody and make them feel at home. Here we’ve come as outsiders, we’ve left behind friends and family and we have to make new friendships and it isn’t so easy. What joins us all is golf”.
Anna also represents Los Naranjos in the Western League team as well as in the inter-club tournaments. But her greatest legacy without a doubt is the Summer League. She is very proud of this competition which lasts six weeks and draws more followers every time: “This year will be the fifth. When I arrived there was nothing in May or September and it frustrated me. My husband told me that instead of protesting about this fact it would be better if I were to set up a league and so it happened. Now we have more players than in many winter tournaments. Players come from Los Arqueros, Aloha, Las Brisas… Also, we have sponsors and hold a barbecue at the end of it”, she states proudly.

Anna goes to the club at least four days a week; she assures us that what she enjoys most of Los Naranjos is the marvellous atmosphere one breathes there.
Regarding golf she tells us one has to have patience because “there is always something you don’t have. You can play the long clubs and the approach well and get onto the green and then you don’t have the putt or perhaps the next day it can be the other way around” but she also assures us that “the day everything goes right you remember for the rest of your life. It is such a special sensation it’s heavenly”.

We hope that Anna will keep lowering her handicap, receiving many new members and enjoying her captaincy many more years. It is certainly a great pleasure to meet golfers that are so sweet, friendly and fun as she is. Thank you Anna!
