  •  England’s Gemma Clews came back to Smorum Golf Club with one mission; to defend her title and Clews did it.
  • On a partially suspended final day, the Manchester-based player kept her cool to card a final round of one-under-par (69).

It was a hot start with the putter for Clews who birdied holes two and three before a double bogey occurred on the difficult hole four.

Clews kept playing steadily and finished with a fantastic birdie on hole 18 to take victory at Smorum for the second time.

“It’s amazing to come back and try and defend. Obviously, it’s a tough ask, I was really looking forward to coming back and then to come back and defend and go wire-to-wire as well. It feels fantastic.”

Staying calm was Clews’ mantra in the tough conditions on final day and she excelled, so much in fact she didn’t know if she had won on the 18th.

“I had no idea what was going on, I didn’t look at the leaderboards or anything like that.

“I had no idea I had won, I just stuck to my game plan today and took control of what I could do and just stuck to my processes.”

Clews, who graduated from LETAS back in 2023, will play the rest of the season on the LET, except for the Rose Ladies Open in September.

“This win gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season, I really struggled at the start of this year.

“At the last couple of events my game has just been getting better and better and hopefully I can take this win into the next couple of months.”

Swedish duo Andrea Lignell and Anna Magnusson both had fantastic final rounds to finish joint second on seven-under-par.

Whilst home favourite Natacha Host Husted and Kajsa Arwefjall finished tied fourth on five-under-par.

PING Junior Solheim Cup 2024 player, Victoria Kristensen (a) finished as the highest amateur in solo sixth on four-under-par.

Meanwhile Germany’s Helen Tamy Kreuzer and Australia’s Stephanie Bunque finished seventh on three-under-par.

Australia’s Kelsey Bennett rounded out the top 10 in ninth on two-under-par after a great final round of four-under-par.

LETAS now travels across the Øresund bridge back to Sweden for the Ahlsell Trophy by Destination Jonkoping where 132 players will tee it up at Gränna Golfklubb, 7-9th August.
