Maja Stark became a professional in 2021, winning two tournaments during her first season at LET, among which the Estrella Damm Ladies Open by Catalunya. The Swedish golfer started the year 2022 with a new triumph, winning the Race to Costa del Sol. Shy, although charming outside the course, in golf she is a though opponent.

You are having a nice season since you became a professional? What have you done to achieve this?

 I don’t know, I really haven’t done anything different this season compared to the season before. I think the work has finally paid off, I guess I am putting better and that is a big thing because even when I hit it wide and I miss the green I can still save it. This is really good but there is still a lot left of the season and I am not taking any wins now.

What is the strongest aspect of your game?

Probably my iron game and my long game in general. I hit a lot of greens and now that I have improved my putting I can actually aim to finish the hole with one put instead of two putting like before. 

Do you mean to stay here, at LET or do you plan to move to LPGA?

The plan is to move to LPGA, but at the moment I don´t have any LPGA status so I would have to rely on invites. But that is my final goal.

I am planning to be top ten here on the order of merits so I can enter the queue series for LPGA and then I will see what happens there. I enjoy playing in Europe more than in the US, but if you want to play with the best players you have to go to LPGA.

You have so many LET tournaments this year….

Yes, it is a good problem to have, I think I have a good plan now. So it is going to be a lot of fun.

Female golf is growing up fast do you feel more recognized?

Yes I do feel that, specially at home in Sweden, where golf has been a really small sport, specially female golf, during the last ten or fifteen years since Annika stopped playing, although even when she was playing it wasn’t very big. But now since we have me, Linn Grant, Ingrid Lindblad, Beatrice Wallin,  Fredrika Zetterblom and a lot of younger players they really have shown interest and we have started to get more attention in the media, including normal media and not just in the sports section, so it is really fun.

LET is coming back to your country, this is very good news right?

Very good news, yeah I really like it. Hopefully there will be a lot of people this year. Last year we couldn’t have that many people, only 600 people could watch, so It was a bit boring but this year there are no restrictions so I am really excited about that.

How did you start playing golf?

I come from a really small village and we have a golf course and that is about it. I used to bike every day to the course when I was little. I used to go there with my father but before I used to play football and table tennis, but then I stopped and I only kept playing golf

 In which moment do you decide to become professional golfer?

It was August of last year, I feel like it was very obvious that I was gonna go pro. I have always wanted to be in the sports world and I figured that with my goals that was the right thing to do. Everyone around me was turning pro so I didn’t think of it as a weird step. 

Your Dream?

I want to win one of every Major but obviously the Solheim Cup is something I would want to do so hopefully I will be back in Spain next year.

Is that at the top of the mind of all players, playing the Solheim Cup?

Oh yeah, for sure.  Is on my mind all the time and I am just counting on the world ranking where I am compared to other Europeans.

What do you think about the new captain Suzann Pettersen?

She is full. She just started following me on Instagram so she is watching everything I do, she reacted to my story from this week. It is really cool that she is paying attention now as I have never met her before.

 Solheim will be in Costa del Sol. What do you think about it?

I think it’s really fun. I feel like the Spanish crowds are good at making a lot of noise, specially for the Spanish players but now since is everyone in Europe I think they are going to be very loud and as I said I like playing in Spain and I like the courses here. Is going to be a lot of fun if I do get in.

Have you played Finca Cortesin already?

I haven´t. My dad and my brother have played there last year while I was playing the tour final day they were over there and they said it is one of best courses they have ever seen, It is very prestigious and luxurious.
