Jaime Salaverri Highlights the Tournament’s Importance for Spanish Golf

Jaime Salaverri, Vice President of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, described the Challenge de España as one of the key tournaments for the development of professional golf in Spain and Europe.

“The level on the HotelPlanner Tour continues to rise and the Challenge de España has become a tournament that prepares players for the leap to the DP World Tour,” said Salaverri. “Many former champions here have gone on to succeed at the highest level of world golf.”

Salaverri also praised the strength of Spain’s new golfing generation following Pablo Ereño’s recent victory at the Challenge de Catalunya.

“Pablo Ereño’s win in Fontanals shows the incredible talent emerging in Spanish golf. We are seeing a generation of players who are ambitious, highly prepared and ready to compete at the highest level,” he added.

Few events on the HotelPlanner Tour can match the history and prestige of the Challenge de España. Over the years, the tournament has crowned players who later became stars on the global stage.

One of the most notable examples is Brooks Koepka, who won the event in 2013 before becoming a five-time Major champion and one of the biggest names in world golf.
