Golf players must ensure they use appropriate measures for protecting themselves from the sun to prevent any risk of developing skin cancer due to continuous sun exposure while playing this sport:

- It is important to stay out of the sun when it is at its strongest; between 12:00 and 16:00.

- While enjoying any outdoor sport, suitable sunscreen must be used. This protects the skin against UVB, which leads to sunburn; and UVA, which is the main factor behind premature ageing of the skin. This radiation also affects the immune system and is a leading factor in the development of skin cancer.

- Ensure you generously apply sunscreen on dry skin, 20 minutes before going out in the sun. Apply the product again every two hours.

- You should still use sunscreen, even on apparently cloudy days. The ultraviolet rays can penetrate the clouds and reflect off water, sand and grass.

- You should take extreme precaution with the most sensitive parts of the body such as the face, neck, scalp, shoulders, neckline, ears and hands.

- It is also important to protect your skin with suitable clothing and other accessories such as head wear and sunglasses.

- In addition, make sure you hydrate yourself continuously by drinking water.

- After any exposure to the sun, be sure to apply moisturiser.

- Finally, we advise golfers to visit their dermatologist once a year to undergo a check-up for any potential damage to their skin.
