The town, one of Andalusia’s most typical and considered to be the home of flamenco, boasts an endless list of tourist attractions, ranging from monuments such as the Alcázar, Iglesia de Santiago and San Miguel churches, the Catedral and the Cartuja Monastery, to singular institutions like the Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestre, where the marvellous Carthusian horses, a unique Spanish-Arabic breed, can be admired, or the cellars where the famous Jerez wines are produced.

Not forgetting the Circuito de Velocidad, where international motorcycling and motor racing competitions are staged.

It dates to the 12th Century and was reformed in the 15th Century and modified in the 18th and 20th Centuries. Today it preserves a large part of its primitive construction. With a square shape, it is a building of Almohade origin, built in the 12th Century and residence to the Caliphs of Seville and headquarters of the Christian governors after the city fell into the hands of Alfonso X. Its various parts, which have been magnificently restored, include the Christianised Mosque dedicated to Santa María la Real, the Arabic Baths, the Oil Mill and the beautiful gardens.

The Jerez Cathedral is a beautiful building from the 17th century which combines Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical styles and stands above the earlier Great Mosque of Jerez and the old Church of El Salvador.

The chapels of La Inmaculada, El Sagrario and Las Ánimas stand out inside, the latter dedicated to the famous Cristo de la Viga, from the 14th century. The bell tower, which is outside, was possibly built over the minaret of the old mosque of Jerez de la Frontera.

Horses 

The old Fuente del Suero meadow houses the most important Spanish Carthusian horse reserve in the world. Nowadays, the Yeguada de la Cartuja – Hierro del Bocado stud, which belongs to the State Heritage Department, is located near the Cartuja de Jerez Monastery- In the 15th century, this monastery was a cornerstone for breeding Jerez horses. The main aim of the stud farm is to preserve the gene pool of this lineage and generally contribute to improving the Spanish thoroughbred horse and in particular, the Carthusian horse.

The Wine and Marco de Jerez Brandy Route is the birthplace of the most celebrated and international Spanish wines and brandies. A millenary winemaking culture that encloses an immense cultural heritage, the legacy of the many peoples who for centuries have left their mark that, together with the exceptional climate and beauty, make Jerez an internationally acclaimed tourist attraction.

 Wine 

The route passes through privileged surroundings, the geographical triangle formed by the towns Sanlúcar de Barrameda, El Puerto de Santa María and Jerez de la Frontera.

The landscape of Marco de Jerez is interspersed with the unique designs of the wine cellars where the production of regional wines and brandies occurs, following the ancestral practices that have been passed on from generation to generation. Known as Wine Cathedrals for their majesty, stillness, low lighting and unusual architectural structure, the wine cellars in Jerez are real sanctuaries in which worship is rendered to time.

El Puerto de Santa María

Located at the heart of Cadiz Bay, the town features three different types of landscape: marshland, pine groves and beaches.

The marshes at Los Toruños and near the River Guadalete, are part of Cadiz Bay Natural Park.The town alsoincludes the Puerto de Santa Maria Marsh Complex, comprising La Laguna Salada, Juncosa and La Chica. The beaches, long with fine sands, are one of the town’s main attractions.

El Puerto de Santa Maria, granted town status in 1281, is full of monuments and places of interest, such as Saint Mark’s Castle, Villarreal and Purellena Palaces, the Basilica menor nuestra Sra. de los milagros, La Victoria Monastery and the Bullring.

Puerto Sherry

In the municipal district of El Puerto de Santa María, forming part of a luxury housing estate of the same name, Puerto Sherry was built fairly recently and is one of Europe’s best marinas, perfect for practising a variety of water sports.

Next to the shopping centre and the whole area of bay, it is great for sea activities and leisure in general, not forgetting gastronomy and wine. This region produces excellent wines that are a perfect accompaniment to a good seafood dish.

Sherry Golf

Sherry Golf Jerez is designed by Stirling & Martín (Global Golf Company), and is a golf course suitable both for amateurs as well as demanding professionals. Club de Golf Vista Hermosa

Vista Hermosa opened in 1975 and is situated in the Bay of Cádiz, just past El Puerto de Santa María. Fairways are narrow and the greens are well guarded by sand traps. The main difficulty, however, is presented by the easterly Levante wind. The club is very active and there are regular competitions to keep members and visitors well entertained.

Montecastillo Golf & Sport Resort

Located next to the Grand Prix circuit near Jerez, Montecastillo Barceló Golf Club opened in 1992. The official inauguration took place during the 1994 Turespaña Masters Open de Andalucía in which course designer Jack Nicklaus competed together with his sons Jackie and Gary.

Following the Golden Bea´s preferences (‘I hate uphill lies’) Montecastillo is mostly flat. But where the terrain takes control a downhill course has been engineered. ‘I like to see what ´m getting’ is Nicklaus´ explanation. The 18th is one hole which proves the design philosophy. An elevated tee looks down forty metres over a broad sweep of fairway bordering a lake to the left with the green just beyond. The Barceló Montecastillo Golf & Sports Resort and Castle Clubhouse overlook the final green from the right. Sandy Lyle hit a massive drive on this hole into the hotel swimming pool.

Villanueva Golf & Croquet

Located in Puerto Real, surrounded by pine forests. Well communicated, nearby A4 Autovía, exit 664. Cádiz is about 12 minutes away. Very close to the beaches of the Costa de La Luz, and the White Villages of Cádiz.

The Parkland-type golf course, designed by Aymerich Consulting in 2006, allows an accesible game. Various tee positions challenge both beginners and experienced players. 18 hole golf course par 72. Fast greens. Strategically placed bunkers, water hazards, and the Levante wind when come to play, ensure that each round of golf is a funny different experience. Easy to walk. Its wide fairways, surrounded by pines, wild olive trees, mastic bushes, rosemary, and many native plants, are characteristic of this Cadiz course. Golf school led by Pro Sebastián de Miguel.
