From the waves to the green, from the adrenaline to the serenity, from an extreme to a quiet sport. Apparently, the windsurfing has nothing in common with golf, but if you think about it both of them involve nature and its elements, like the wind for example plays such an important role that you have to learn to master or at least take advantage of it. Lourdes took advantage of her sport discipline and her competitive character to make the best of a new sport that has become her passion. Her extrovert nature, her strength, energy and commitment has helped her become the Añoreta Golf captain and a Solheim Cup 2023 ambassador.

Lourdes has been windsurfing since she was fifteen years old and she was already participating in international competitions when she was 18: “As soon as I got my driving license, I was able to go more often to Tarifa that became my second home. I participated in competition in Europe, all over the world and my final summit was Hawaii. I went and stayed sometime there training and taking photos and, when I came back, I told to myself – I’m done with this stage”, Lourdes remembers and explains her turning point: “Laura and Carlos were who encouraged me to try golf, they are my neighbours, I consider them part of my family, I adore them. At that moment I thought that golf was very quiet, more for old people, I was coming from a sport full of adrenaline. I started in the year 2000 and by 2001 I was already competing”.

But also, Lourdes is a Solheim Cup ambassador: “The idea of being an ambassador was surprising, I used to follow the Solheim. I considered that this was one of the best golf competitions and, when the idea came up and the club told me, I felt a great responsibility. I had all kind of doubts, but when you meet the group of 100 ambassador you feel relaxed, because you realize we are all together in the same boat, that we all row in the same direction and we support one another. There are excellent ideas coming from the group. The figure of the ambassador has been a wise move, also as a sport woman, it is going to favour all the sport women that feel the support of all the ambassadors”. As someone who is used to communication due to her job, Lourdes is very kind, close and friendly.
