Rocio, who holds a Degree in Tourism by the University of Cadiz (UCA), being aware of the importance of Golf in this area, specialized on Golf Courses Management at the Ciomijas Tourism School. A very wise choice. She is now the Finca Cortesin’s Golfing Events Organizer, after having her practices at Almenara and her first job at La Reserva de Sotogrande. Finca Cortesin has been awarded the best Resort in Europe several times and has just been appointed to hold the Solheim Cup 2023. It is going to be a couple of years of hard work, but Rocio is happy because she knows that she has the opportunity to be part of the most important event of feminine sports.

Rocio knew that something was happening when all the visits started and some news articles associating Finca Cortesin and the Solheim were published last September. Her discretion and professionality kept her silence. One month later, when the announcement was made, she couldn’t believe it: “I was very happy because of the magnitude of such an event. It is a unique opportunity. I received congratulations from everywhere, everybody was very happy for me, because I started from scratch in the golf world and being able to get where you want is very difficult, it is only possible working hard and being persistent. All those who have met me know that I have worked hard to be where I am. Due to my position, I’ll be very involved in the organization of the event and being part of that process is a great privilege for me”.

She speaks about the Solheim enthusiastically, with eyes sparkling with excitement, she remembers her first job in a great tournament: “It was in the Andalucia Masters, in 2011. When I had that experience, I thought it was incredible and I loved it, it was then that I realized that I wanted to work preparing such great events. I think that Organizing tournaments is amazing.

The only recipe for her success is her love for her job: “The fact that I enjoy my job is essential for me and that makes everything turn out well for me. It is not forced. It is very important the way we treat the customer, to welcome them with a smile, to show them your interest for their experience, as much when they arrive as when they leave. Here at Finca, the excellence is a premium, but there is always something that can be improved. The customer service is very important, to make them feel comfortable” she remarks, and goes on explaining her day: “A tournament organization takes an important amount of time. Here, at Finca Cortesin, we want it to become an experience. Our level of requirement is very high so that everything runs smoothly. I feel the most satisfied when customers say that it has been a great experience, 100% recommendable and that they are going to come back. It is then when you realize that your job has been well done”. At this point it should be noted that Finca Cortesin has been awarded as the customer service number one resort in Europe (Leading Courses – Number 1 in “Top 100 BestGolf Resorts in Europe”).

Rocio is completely sure that to be successful in the organization of events what is most important is the communication and coordination of all the departments engaged: “Working in Finca Cortesin means working as a family, everyone knows their tasks and everyone is deeply involved. It is important to work in harmony and that everyone knows what to do. The day of the tournament there can be contingencies and it is important to be quick and effective to solve problems so that everything flows. The wind in this area can play tricks. We have to anticipate the weather, because it changes from one day to the next and that implies a different kind of round and that’s not so easy to change on the go.

When I ask her about famous people visiting, she laughs and shows her professionality once again: “We have some. We treat that issue with maximum discretion, it is very important for us to do it, because, obviously, people come here to pass unnoticed. We supervise who enters and leaves, so we know who is coming”. Hugh Grant?? I asked her. She laughs: “We are visited by very important people, maybe not so famous as him, but they are very prominent people in the world of business. They look for privacy, for exclusiveness, they want to enjoy themselves.” she answers.

Rocio, who is also a Management assistant, has begun her golf lessons, but she needs time and some encouragement to start. The Solheim is going to be, for sure, what makes her decide to go out and enjoy a Golf Course where the greatest Female Golf Tournament will be held. #VamosRocio #VamosGirls.
