It is his father who has, in a generation of champions like Severiano Ballesteros, raised Spanish golf to the world’s summit. It those personal names such as Jose María Cañizares that have gained supporters for sports like golf unknown in Spain. Alejandro Cañizares has grown up among golf clubs and balls and perpetuates the lineage of golfers.
Now he has taken up the torch and, next to other names like Sergio García or Miguel Ángel Jiménez, keeps winning victories for our country and raising visibility for this sport. That is the key for increasing followers according to Alejandro.

For him, in the case of female golf that is living a great moment, counting on names of media stars like Azahara Muñoz and Carlota Ciganda who are pushing hard. They have garnered a greater awareness and although the promotion is slower than that of male golf, this is slowly changing.

For Alejandro, the birth of Ladies in Golf is “a fantastic idea because female golf needs to be broadcast and publicised and there aren’t many means in the case of female golf. All sports grow the more is known about them. It is also important that all the work behind golfing be known: there are many, many hours of effort involved.” For Alejandro golf is something marvellous at the amateur level too as “it teaches great values and it is a sport that you can practice from the moment you start to walk till you stop. The player affirms that now after winning the European Qualification School Tournament will be fit for the next season and offer us his best golf again.
